I was born with very bad ears and have had multiple surgerys. Over the course of these surgerys, my ear drums have been damaged. I would like to learn to dive but I can only get down to around 3-4m before I get the sensation that my ear will literally explode. Is there a surgery that can help strengthen my ear drum?
Repeated surgeries in ear drum leads to scarring of tympanic membrane which weakens the ear drum. You can go for total replacement of ear drum which can be done surgically.Diving with weakened eardrum is not advisable as barotrauma can happen to ears due to failure to adequately equalize pressure.
