My son has some patches (about 10) on his upper leg/behind knee and one on his waist line. At first I thought it was ringworm. When using about 2+ tubes of OTC antifungal creams didn t work I took him to doc--thinking it may be eczema. Doc said he thought ringworm, too, but said no to the oral meds and prescribed stronger antifungal cream. We are now on week 3 of the prescription cream and the spots really aren t better. I am back to thinking it could be a form of eczema. I have proctosol-hc 2.5% for myself. Is this type of prescription cream safe to try on the skin spots on my son. He is 15 yrs old (220#). Thanks,
Hi. As per your case history you are having fungal infection called as tinea corporis. My treatment advice is - 1. Maintain good hygiene and bath twice daily. 2. Apply an antifungal cream like clotrimazole cream twice daily on it. 3. Take an antihistamine medication like levocetrizine twice daily for 7-10 days. 4. Other treatment options are oral fluconazole, itraconazole and terbinafine taken only after consulting a dermatologist.
Thanks. Dr. Harshit bhachech. MBBS, DDVL.
