Suggest Withdrawal Methods For Olanzepine

My son was diagnosed schizophrenic last Sept. after psychtic episode . He was using meth heavily. Now he s been on olanzipine for over a year and off Meth. he s sooooo tired and lethargic and wants to come off the olanzepine 40mg daily. Do you think he can do this without another psychotic episode?

For many patients with schizophrenia olanzipine works well. But many patients may need prolonged therapy for years together. Some patients may need life long therapy because withdrawal of the medicine can lead to the recurrence of the disease. In view of this it is better to continue the medicine atleast at reduced dose (half of the dose). If your son continues to to be alright with reduction in the dose you can further reduce the dose to one third after few months and then make an attempt to stop the drug completely
