Suggested Rectal Examination. Is This Procedure Painful? Anything To Worry?

I am Roger, a 15 year old male. I have always played school sports, so every year I must get a physical exam. The school sends home a paper with exams/procedures for the doctor to perform, the doctor does them and signs off on the paper) Over the summer I went from 8th to 9th grade changing from middle to high school. On the high school sheet it says that I need to get a "rectal exam". What is the procedure? Is it painful? Should I be worried?

Welcome to HCM.
Rectal exam is one of the routine examinations done. It is not painful but can be slightly uncomfortable. The doctor will use local application of anesthetic (gel) to reduce the discomfort during examination. Please do not worry. Thanks
