Suggestions For A Ketogenic Diet For Epilepsy Patient

Hi. Would like to ask you to recommend a ketogenic diet for my brother who has had epilepsy (Lennox Gastaut syndrome ) since birth. He is now 23 years of age, and we ve tried many medications . Am hoping a ketogenic diet would help. So would require advice on how to go about it, specific to Indian/south Indian food/diet. Thanks.

Hi welcome to Health care magic forum. Ketogenic diet is the diet desined to feed the children with epilepsy, it contains low calories, and proteins, to suffice to energy of the body for for primary functions, and to have only growth of the body, and not surplus. it contains much of fats like creams, oils, and ghee. it is burned in the brain to give energy to brain releasing ketone bodies form ketosis. it prevent the seizures . But it suitable to the children only with very little energy for daily consumption, it may not be suffecient for adult requirement.
Besides there is a way to prevent the seizures in epileptics. They are to avoid using drugs which has a CNS stimulant activity and drugs which contain seizures as a side effect. They are fluroquinolones.anti histamines. anaerobic drugs like metrionidazole etc. tramadol group of drugs. you make a list of these drugs and show to your doctor before having treatment of day to day infections.if you can follow this you will have a relief of at least 95% of occurance.
Besides i also advise you some diet recommendations as avoid giving potato, other tubers, tomato, egg, fish, other sea foods, with good results. Wishing for a quick recovery and thanks for calling.
