As her mother who does her laundry, changes her bathroom trash can, and buys her maxi pads each month, I know for a fact that she's not pregnant. I didn't know this was a forum where I would come to be insulted. I thought this was a safe place to come to get real answers. Thank you for being so helpful and informative. Wow, what a great website.
hi,
I stumbled across this while surfing on the internet.I am a doctor and the symptoms you describe to me are very worrying .YOU need to insist her to see a doctor immediately .If she was pregnant like the other viewers pointed out -remember some women continue to bleed upto 4 months into pregnancy.Anyway even if she was pregnat she should not gain so many pounds in 4 months---it is way too much .get her seen quickly.
Why haven't you taken her to a doctor!? Any idiot can post an answer on this and many other medical websites. If money or health insurance problems make you reluctant to go to a doctor, then you really should ask actual doctors who will take questions over the internet, such as

That said, to me (NOT a medical professional), it sounds like your daughter may have hypothyroidism (low functioning thyroid gland), which can be diagnosed with a simple blood test. According to the Mayo Clinic, the symptoms may include all or some of the following:
Fatigue
Sluggishness
Increased sensitivity to cold
Constipation
Pale, dry skin
A puffy face
Hoarse voice
An elevated blood cholesterol level
Unexplained weight gain
Muscle aches, tenderness and stiffness
Pain, stiffness or swelling in your joints
Muscle weakness
Heavier than normal menstrual periods
Brittle fingernails and hair
Depression
It sounds to me like she is suffering from Bulimia. Those are all the signs..when you constantly throw up, your fluids shift and make your feet and legs swollen. Your eyes get blood shot and you develope dark circles under your eyes. I would say that going on that diet triggered something in her to do this. Esp. since ya'll are "food focused and weight focused" being tired alot is a symtom..throwing up puts alot of strain on the heart, and body. When you throw up you tend to gain weight instead of lose weight because the fluid retention and electrolyte imbalences. I would ask her about it!
I had periods all through my pregnancy; that's how i kept it from 'my mom' for 4 months when i was 17.l
