Swelling, Bruise After Falling. Normal X Ray. How Long Should I Take Rest?
Hi,i fell one day ago and badly bruised my knee and shin. The swelling is severe and it is continuing to bruise.I got it xrayed at urgent care.No fracture, bad sprain.Doc said he was concerned about possible " compartment syndrome" and to keep an eye on it.I have a job that am on my feet for.I am just wondering how long I need to stay off work, rest, ice and elevate my leg?thanks!
Keep continuing the RICE regime. You have to constantly watch for signs and symptoms of compartment syndrome as this condition if left untreated will lead to devastating complications.
Though there are few signs & symptoms which can predict the possibility of development of Compartment syndrome. The earliest symptom is pain out of proportion to the severity of injury (i.e. unbearable pain in the limb). An immediate fasciotomy is to be performed for a better prognosis.
If it is only a bad sprain, it may take anyway between 3-4 weeks for full recovery depending upon the severity of damage.
Hope this information is helpful. Good day
