Swelling In Feet, Numbness In Right Feet. Alcoholic, Trying To Quit Drinking. Cause Of Swelling?
My son is an alcoholic and has drank for many years. He is trying to quit drinking and trying to get into a detox hospital. He can,t get in yet because of no beds. My concern is his feet are swelling and the right one is worse and is numb. Is this a problem with the alcohol or something else? Should he go ahead and go to the emergancy room or wait for a bed in detox? Thank you.
Hello, Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum. Chronic alcoholism is the main cause of edema over dependent parts as feet . Due to hypoproteinaemia there develops edema, Anemia , kidney involvement . Fatty infiltration of liver with degeneration . Alcoholic neuropathy is the main cause of numbness. In my opinion consult a physician and get his opinion. Good luck. Dr. HET
