Swelling In Hand After Removal Of An IV Inserted To Hand, Painful. Treatment?

I had a brief hospital stay last week. I had an IV inserted into my right hand to receive fluids. When I was discharged the IV was removed. Over the next few days my hand has swelled and is painful. My fingers also feel asleep. Have you ever heard of this? Will this go away on its own? Should I go back to the hospital?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, it is the thrombo phlebitis of the hand due to the allergic reaction of the I.V.canula, for certain length of time. It usually is relieved by its own, if no relief in 2 days, consult your doctor.
I to my patient with such symptoms prescribe ofloxacin 200 B.D, diclophenac 50 BD, and serratio peptidase 10 B.D. Thank you.
