Swollen Bump On The Side Of The Head That Feels Indented For A Child
My 2 month old fell out of a stroller and hit the side of his head on concrete four days ago. He screamed for about 20 mins and had a swollen bump on side of head. We took him to the ER and they observed him and said he would be ok. Now that the swelling is going down, when u feel the bump, underneath feels indented. My question is, is this normal and should I be worried?
Hello, The main hallmarks of any head injury that should worry us after a fall are vomiting, seizure, loss of consciousness and bleeding from the nose or ear.Since your son did not have any of these complaints, it is reasonably safe to assume that he has not suffered any injury to the brain after the fall. However, the soft bones of a baby's head can crack after a fall. The pressure of the floor could have pushed a part of the bone inwards, what is called a depressed fracture.I would advice you to consult a neurosurgeon.A simple x ray of the head will provide the diagnosis. The bump on the head is likely to be a blood clot and will gradually change color and disappear. Regards, Dr.Sudharsana.S
