TSH Level Abnormal, Overweight. Family History Of Thyroid Cancer And Hashimotos. Recommendations?
Hello Dr. I went to the Life Line Screening and had my TSH level checked. It came back a little high at 3.4. What tiype of Dr. would be the best to see regarding thyroid issues? My sister had Thyroid cancer and Hashimoto's. I am a 54 y o female--30 pounds overweight. Trying to lose :) Thank you--any recommendations in the Livonia./ Novi, MI area?
Low levels of thyroid hormone can result in weight gain. In this case the TSH would be increased and the thyroid hormone levels would be decreased.
The normal level of TSH is between 0.5 to 5 , though there can be some variation from lab to lab. Based on this range, your result would be considered normal or within range.
However if you wished to see someone regarding a possible review of your thyroid function, an endocrinologist would be the person who deals with these issues. You can consider asking your doctor for a referral.
I hope this helps
