Tailbone Injury. Pain Due To Climbing Stairs. Fracture Or Break?

I fell on my tailbone this evening and I am in a lot of pain whether I am sitting or trying to get up. If I am walking it feels o.k. but if I climb stairs it hurts. Is it a concern about a fracture or break? I work in a warehouse where physical work is a daily occurance at my particular job. Do I need to worry about injuring it any more or will it just take time? Any bending give me a lot of pain.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hi, thank you for your question.

fracture is a possibility but if it is in the coccyx region (tail bone) rather than lumbar spine area then no need for x-ray as it is unlikely to show us much.

It seems it does not hurt on walking which is reassuring.

I will recommend strong analgesia for 3 days then gradually decrease the dose, if it is a tailbone injury then use doughnut shape cushion while setting if it is painful to set on it.

kind regards
