Taken Penicillin For Tonsillitis. Have Dizziness, Headache, Fever

Three weeks ago I was diagnosed with tonsillitis I took a full course of penicillin VK, now this week I have once again been diagnosed with it, due to my doctors being busy my doc prescribed another course of Penicillin VK. My throat is getting no better, and my tonsils are now huge. I am also having dizziness with a splitting headache, and have a temperature, does this sound like tonsillitis?

Hello and welcome to Health care magic,

I am Dr Sriram Nathan and I shall try to help you with your problem

Since you have already taken two course of penicillin and it has not resulted in a complete cure then it is either that the infection is resistant to penicillin or the diagnosis of tonsillitis is wrong. You may do these:

-Take a course of stronger anti biotic like the amox-clav in consultation with your doctor.

- More preferable take a throat swab for culture and sensitivity and then according to the report start the antibiotic.

-You may also start a course of anti reflux medication like pantoprazole, along with an antihistamine like levcetrizine. Your doctor will know about these.

-get a dental consultation and see if there is anything like a jagged teeth which is irritating the area

-Take only non spicy, non oily and warm food and fluids

-take proper meal at proper and correct time. Do not immediately lie down after food.

-Take a course of multivitamin like zincovit in consultation with your doctor

If you do not get better in a week or so then you must consult an ENT doctor who may advice further course of action which may include endoscopy and may be even CT to get a better picture

take care and do not worry

regards

Dr Sriram Nathan
