Taken Treatment For Vaginal Infection After Having Sex. Have Pain In Abdomen And Vagina. What Is The Problem?

i am 24years old girl.in feb 7 2012,4th day of my periods i had sex with my boyfriend and i had vaginal infection after 20days and i consult a doctor on march 3 and she gave a 2 green color capsule and asked me to apply cream in the vagina for 1 week.after that i got complete cure from the problem.after that i didnt have sex atall.after in 2013 august i got pain in the left side of the lower abdomen and light vagainal pain.am so weird the i might have HIV.can u tell what the problem is??? and what test i have to undergo.

Thanks for writing in.
You may have HIV testing or full STD screening to rule out any ongoing infection. Also have one pelvic ultrasound to make sure all is well.
Please practice safe sex if you want to avoid similar anxieties in future.
During periods chances of infection are more. So, better to avoid sex during this period.

Hi,
According to your symptoms, you seem to be having pelvic infection and it may or may not be related to the vaginitis you had in the past as there is a long time gap. I would ask you to see a gynecologist and get a complete evaluation along with a vaginal smear, pap smear and a trans-vaginal sonogram. Blood counts and urinalysis also are necessary to look for infection. You may also get tested for HIV infection. You can get treated easily with antibiotics and pain relief if it is PID, so please do not worry. Hope you find this information useful. Take care.
