Taking Atenolol For Blood Pressure And Altace For PVC Since Years. Can I Consider Weaning Off From Altace?

I have been on Atenolol (25 mg. twice daily) and Altace (2.5 mg. once daily) for about 10 years. Do you think it is really necessary to be on both? I am considering weaning off of the Altace. I was prescribed Atenolol for high blood pressure and Altace for PVC s. Thank you for your advice.

Hi,

Altace (ramipril) is prescribed for lowering the blood pressure in people who are hypertensive, while atenolol is used to treat both high blood pressure and premature ventricular contractions (PVCs). In my opinion, you should not make any changes without consulting your doctor first. Regular monitoring of blood pressure and electrocardiography is needed before it can be decided if a change can be made in your prescription.

Best wishes.
