Taking Diltiazem. Having Side Effects Such As Fuzzy Headed, Weakness, Eye Problems, Elevated Heart Rate. Continue Taking It?

My mom is 99 yrs. old, has taken diltiazem ER 120 mg. cap (OD) for 4-5 yrs. 2 yrs ago she was having problems with it, and Dr. cut it back to every other day, 2 yrs ago. She has a heart murmer . Last 2 times she took it left her sick feeling, fuzzy headed, weak, trouble with eyes, heart rate up over 150, etc. Today she said she developed a knot in her belly and, heart raced and sick feeling. By 2pm mt. time today, she began to feel a bit better, but weak. Now she s afraid to stop meds, but afraid to take it. She has all kinds of allergies to foods & smells, takes antigens shots for most foods she rotates every 5-6 days Her allergy and cardiologist is in Dallas, we re in Colorado. The Dr. here has NO idea about how to treat her, and simply takes her vitals, blood tests, and write scrips for the Diltiazem, so it won t help calling him for info. Would you suggest she continue taking this (she takes 7am on empty stomach and waits 1hr to eat. every other day) or start cutting back or what?

HI
Thank for asking to HCM
I really understand your concern, looking to age of the patient geriatric problems are more troublesome rather than medicine, one thing should be considered here and that is dose of the medicine it has to be as low as possible and should only be given where it is most important and extremely necessary otherwise she could do even better without so many drugs, have nice day.
