Taking Escitalopram For Depression. Bloodshot Eyes, Racing Heart, Dizziness. Due To Medicine?
Hello. My aunt has been taking escitalopram for depression for about a week now and we noticed today that her eyes are extremely blood shot and she hasn't been feeling right. Racy heart, and every time she gets to get up she feels like the floor is moving and she feels really weird. Could all this be due to the medicine?
Hello
Welcome to health care magic
I can understand your situation. I appreciate your effort to seek online support.
Escitalopram is an SSRI which is used as an antidepressant. It causes mild side effects like nausea, loose stools, sedation and that too during initial days. Blood shot eyes and other symptoms described by you could be due to some other reason which needs evaluation by a general practitioner.
Don't worry and relax. Discuss all this with your treating doctor for readjustment of the dose if required
Hope it helps
Good luck

Features like the heart racing could be from the drug
But not 'blood shot eyes'
You have not stated her age, gender, personal habits, family history or co-morbidities
She should be seen by her doctor - the dose adjusted or the drug changed...
Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck
