Taking Mesalanine. Experiencing Dizziness, Lightheadedness, Tenderness At The Back Of Head. Reaction To Drug?

I have been taking mesalanine( asacol 400 ) since 1978 and this week have been experiencing dizziness and lightheadedness ( for the first time ) I have a tenderness at the back of the head too. Might I add that 4 weeks ago I had problems with the right eye in that the jelly within the eye had moved away from the back of the eye and I still have a faint floater . now could it be the Asacol after all this time or not related ? I have been in emission from UC since 1994 ( except for a brief flare up of 3months in 2007)Thank you

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello Kathleen,
Thanks for coming to HCM. Mesalamine is a good drug for ulcerative colitis. There had been long-term usage studies (clinical trials) on mesalamine where it was found safe considering risk-benefit ratio. The symptoms you mentioned are side effects of this drug but are expected during the initial use. At this point, your symptoms doesn't seem to be due to mesalamine. I would advice you to contact your local physician who can check for other causes like blood sugar changes and blood pressure level & if required CT scan of head.
Wish you good health!
