Taking Seroquel For Bipolar. How To Discontinue If Safely ?

I have been taking Seroquel 150mg xr for 2 years. For 2 months I halved the tablets and this last month I have cut them in thirds. I would like to discontinue them completely. I am not bipolor, they were prescribed to me when I wanted to stop taking Adivan due to rebound effects. Since I have cut down my dosage would it be safe to stop taking it completely?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Seroquel should be discontinued slowly to reduce the chance of withdrawal symptoms.
It would be best if you do it under the supervision of your doctor.

It is important to avoid any alcohol use during the withdrawal process to reduce the chances of symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and difficulty sleeping.

Since you have been reducing it over a 2 month period, there should be minimum withdrawal symptoms.
Your doctor may decide that since the dose is already at one third of the original that it may be safe to discontinue it at this point or go to alternate days for 1 to 2 weeks first.

I hope this helps
