Taking Tenofovir And Lamivir For Hepatitis B. Had Loose Motions Causing Low Hemoglobin. Can I Take Dexorange?
I am 65,weight 75kg. Taking tenofovir 300mg+lamivir100mg for the treatment of Hepatitis B for last 7 years.Recently I suffered from loose motions and bleeding in stool ( Probably because of piles ). Because of this my Hemoglobin came down to 10.6 from >13. doctors have advised me Cap.Dexorange twice daily. Can I take this cap. along with hepatitis-b medicines.

Hi, Sisodia, the drug dexorang plus is good to increase the hemoglbin, and can be used along with the medicines you are using, but for diarrhea, it should not be used till they are controlled, as iron preparation can trigger the diarrhea.

Dexorange contains ferric ammonium citrate, cyanocobalamin and folic acid as its active ingredients. Neither of these ingredients interfere with the functioning of tenofovir and lamivudine (Lamivir) which you are taking for the control of Hep. B. Being a drug expert (MD in Pharmacology) I would like to make you aware on one important aspect, effect (absorption) of tenofovir increases when you take this medicine just after consuming your meal while effect (absorption) of Dexorange (of ferric ammonium citrate to be specific) decreases when when you take this medicine with or just after consuming food. So what I suggest is take tenofovir after meals, while consume Dexorange on empty stomach (2 hrs before or 2 hrs after any food taken). I also advice you to take Dexorange with home made lemon juice instead of plain water or milk, this will further increase the effect (absorption) of Dexorange.
