Taking Tramadol And Lortab For Fibromyalgia. How To Deal With Pain?

I have fibromyalgia and have had it for ten plus years, I have been seeing a arthritis specialist for the biggest part of those ten years, I take blood pressure meds, tramadol and lortab. Now, my doctor says, no refills. The only way to refill them are to see a pain specialist, when that is almost impossible to get in to one. Any ideas of how to deal with the pain until I get an appointment?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

There are various compounds for pain management in Fibromyalgia -
* PREGABALIN - has been shown to be effective in reducing pain, disturbed sleep and fatigue
* DULOXETINE - is helpful in managing the symptoms of fibromyalgia
* GABAPENTIN - is also used to reduce pain.

All the above medications are to be taken only upon doctors advice.

Non Pharmacological options for pain relief are as follows -
* Regular aerobic exercises - Exercise should be of a low impact type and should begin at a low level. Regular stretching exercises are important
* Local measures such as Heat and massage provide temporary relief of pain
* Other forms of therapy like Biofeedback, behavioural modification, hypnotherapy and stress management will help.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
