Hi. Thanks for writing in. I am a medical specialist with an additional degree in Cardiology. Seventy percent of cardiac patients I see also have diabetes. I read your mail with diligence. Glimulin-2 MF also contain metformin as one of the two active salts so does glycomet. In your doctors assessment 1000 mg of Metformin twice daily should be adequate during surgery. Your knee doctor could be planning to top up with plain insulin when sugar goes high, for he can not afford hypoglycemia during surgery and peri-operative period and intake of calories is controlled by the doctor. So have faith in your doctor. Is it your curiosity or doctor's question that how to control sugar level. If the doctor needs an answer assuming that one is ignorant, a suitable consult will be sought. If it is your curiousity, I hope I have given the answer which should satisfy you. Good Luck.
With Best Wishes.
