Taking Iron Infusions For HHT. How Long Can You Use A Port?

I have HHT and have been having iron infusions for the past two months. After two treatments, one about five weeks from the first and it has been three weeks since the last one. (I will be having another one on Thursday October 31) I really hoped and expected my blood and iron counts would improve but after 5 weeks after the first treatment they were worse than before I had the infusion. Today I am not sure the second counts were worse but they were no better. So now I am scheduled for infusions every two weeks until my counts get much better or I run out of veins. My hemotologist said there is nothing else we can do unless the counts fall to a level where I need transfusions which is 4 more points down. So what is my question? How long before I run out of veins for infusions? How long can you use a port and how many different places can you locate them? My blood loss is mostly from nosebleeds and I know there is a surgery that can be done to hopefully help that. The specialist at the HHT Center at Yale are the most experienced ones for that type surgery and I will try to get an appointment there if I do not see better results from the infusions. Also today I asked my doctor what kind of iron pills I should be taking daily and she said since I am on infusions I really do not need to take any. Really???? My blood counts are not moving up. I am a 70 year old female who was diagnosed in 1968 at Walter Reed after I had two CVA s . I had a cousin with this disease who was having transfusions every 3 weeks around age 75. Her mother died in her 60 s of gastric bleeding and she was in the hospital having transfusions. I think my time is running out but I am not ready to die.

This is the spirit of living,

I really admire your spirit of living madam and hope that every patient of mine should have the same.
As per Ayurveda we classify the disease in the category of Raktapitta and your condition of nasal bleeding subclassify it into the Urdhava-jatrugat RaktaPitta Category.

I will suggest you that with the help of a CAM practitioner(Ayurveda) within your locality you can start with a following medication and this will help you for a better prognosis.

you can start with :

1. Extracted Juice of Aegle Marmelos Leafs.
2. Maukti Pishti (powder of Pearl blended in rose water)
3. Praval Pishti (powder of Coral blended in rose water)
4. Dashmool Kwath and other medicines like Dhatri loha etc. that can be suggested to by your CAM Practitioner(Ayurveda) after your clinical examination.
