Hi pioglitazone is the drug belonging to the same group as rosiglitazone which has been banned in most parts of the world in the last 2-3 years because of its side effects on the heart. As such pioglitazone is not banned but lot of doctors are a bit apprehensive about using a medication when similar drug has been banned.
if your sugar levels are fine, I suggest you do not worry about taking pioglitazone, as there are multiple drugs available with the safer side effect profile than this.
