Tennis Elbow. One Doctor Prescribed Medicines With Fomentation With Physiotherapy. Other Doctor Recommends Exercises. Opinion?
What is the permanent cure for Tennis Elbow? I am having pain due to this and had two opinions from medicos. One of them asked me to go for local fomentation with icepack and a regular physiotherapy which includes IFT & U.S.therapy. He also advised Phlogam TDS and Eterik MR twice daily. Another doc advised for hot fomentation and stretching exercise. He advised for Movon OD and a neurovitamin tab. I am perplexed, what to do?
I personally think that no treating doctor can assure you a complete cure for tennis elbow.
If conventional modes of treatment with medicines, physiotherapy have failed to provide pain relief, then a local steroid injection into the point of maximum tenderness will provide significant improvement.
It is very essential to avoid any form of movement or activity that causes pain.
Surgical release of the common extensor origin is the last option for treating tennis elbow.
Tennis elbow occurs due to wear and tear of extensor muscles attached near elbow. You need to give rest to elbow, hot fomenation, pain killer. No physiotherapy will help you.
Best wishes

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hi and welcome to HCM Your both doctors are right in there opinion regarding treatment of tennis elbow. Do not worry,it is a self-limiting condition. It can often last for several weeks or months because tendons heal slowly. Stop doing activities that strain affected muscles and tendons.Taking painkillers, such as paracetamol, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen, may help ease mild pain and inflammation caused by tennis elbow. Physiotherapy is beneficial to relieve pain and stiffness and encourage blood flow to your arm. Hope this will helps you. Take care.
