Throat Congestion, Feeling Of Food Getting Stuck Near The Rib Cage. Vomiting. Reason?
When my husband eats sometimes he says it feels like the food gets down to about the middle of his ribcage it feels like the food gets stuck and then a little later he says it feels like a little valve opens up and the food goes down but sometimes it dosent and it feels like he is choking. tonight we were at dinner with some friends and we had to leave because it wouldnt go away. He vomited about a half hour later but he says it still feels like something is stuck in there and he has the hiccups now. He tried drinking water and he says it makes it worse.
I read your query regarding difficulty in swallowing as felt by your husband, as you said your husband feels some obstruction in the mid of his ribcage during swallowing food and it appears as food is struck there and after sometimes it goes down. Sometimes he doesn't feel so.
Considering your symptoms it appears as your husband is suffering from GERD ( gastro esophageal reflux disease ), but he is having this feeling most of the time and as you said in one episode you lrft the dinner and ultimately he vomit out after half an hour of taking meal and now he felt discomfort in drinking water also therefore now it becomes necessary to consult gastroenterologist for doing upper G.I. endoscopy to rule out any obstructive lesion in oesophagus.
Till you are in waiting for getting consultation with Gastroentrologist your husband may take -
