Tot Suffering With Constipation, Afraid Of Passing Stools And Tends To Withhold, Has Bowel Movements On Taking Medicines. Hirschsprung Disease?

my daughter who is 2 years and 8 months old has been suffering from constipation for the past 1 year. She seems to be afraid of passing stools and tends to withold when there is an urge. Currently she is being given cremaffin plus 10 ml b.i.d. and looz 1o ml b.i.d as advised by our pediatrician . She is also being given oraxin as her weight is only 12.6 kg. When given the medicine, she has bowel movements. Should we suspect any problems other than constipation, for eg. hurschsprung disease.

Hello,
History noted. Don't panic. The baby is in the starting stage of learning the toilet habits and voluntary control. Few children will react so in the learning stage. The medications you are giving is fine. Kindly continue. As far as her bowels are acting following medications indicates normal bowels only. Along with the routine diet supplement her with fruits and vegetables, which adds to the fibre diet and helps in formation of stool bulk.Give her adequate water also, atleast 1.5litres per day.No need to worry about any other problem like Hirschsprung's since it is a congenital condition, would have manifested immediately after birth. Also various other reasons are there, but your history states clearly that the baby is willfully avoiding and afraid of passing stools.Look after her food pattern, she will be fine very soon.
Good day.
