Treatment For A Child With Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) (ADD)

A child is prescribed Amphetamines to treat his ADD. How is this medication supposed to be taken? Is this medication prescribed at any time to be only taken while the child is in school? Is it alright for the parent to decide the child only has to take the medication when they are in school and cut them off when the child is not in school? What effect would this practice have on the child?
