Hi there. I have a 3 day old second degree burn to my wrist/base of my thumb. It is approximately 4 inches in diameter. Today the pain has intensified, a general all over throb. Half of the wound has no feeling. It has become swollen and somewhat red with a red streak running about 8 inches up the inside of my arm. I have no fever but feel unwell. I am due to see my gp in 24 hours. Do you think oI need to see someone earlier than then? Thank you
Hi. As per your case history of second degree burns, my treatment advice is - 1. Don't squeeze the lesion as it may worsen the condition. 2. Apply a mild antibiotic cream like fusiderm cream twice daily on it. 3. Take a NSAID like ibuprofen for 7-10 days. 4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics like levofloxacin, cefadroxil and azithromycin taken only after consulting a dermatologist.
Thanks. Dr. Harshit bhachech. MBBS, DDVL.
