Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My recent fasting (12 hours) blood test showed Vitamin B6 (pyridoxal 5-Phosphate) level at 294.5 - very toxic. My vitamin/mineral supplement has only 3 mg of B6 (as glycoprotein matrix) and I was taking 3 mg of melatonin that included 10 mg of B6 (Pyridoxine Hydrochloride). The neurologist who is attempting to resolve my chronic migraine issues told me to stop all supplements with B6, as well as some other suggestions that seem to be helping with the intensity of the pa8in. This is the third attempt with a neurologist - the first two were not helpful at all. I have had to do all of my own investigation into the causes. My migraines are mostly caused by the symptoms of "photophobia" - light glare and reflection. My eyes are very sensitive and I have not been able to find anyone who can give any solutions for that. I wear a visor almost all the time for protection, and also polarized prescription sun glasses. The amounts of B6 that I have been taking in supplements do not seem to be high and neither one is the pyridoxal 5-Phosphate that showed up in the blood test. So I do not understand what is going on. I eat as healthy as I can, very little to none of processed or refined foods, etc. Any explanation that you know of for this toxicity level? Thank you so much for any helpful assistance with this. Jzonay
HI Thank for asking to HCM I can understand your problem, let me tell you that therapeutic dosage only exerting the toxicity of vitamin B6 and not the dietary supplement, there is certain criteria for administered the vitamin B6 that should be followed, if some one developed the toxicity of this then this is irreversible because the vitamins B6 causes neurological problems, better stop taking this without any good reason, hope this information helps you have good luck.
