Twinge In Hip, Pain In Thigh, Numbness. Taken Cocodamol, Diclofenac, Gabapentin
Three weeks ago I felt a twinge in my back at my right hip. I cannot bend over in a croich position but can do so with straight legs. It feels like something is out of place. After about a week I began getting jangling pain in my outer right thigh and then numbness and pain set in here. I can walk sbout normslly but sitting on a chair and driving is agony. Initial diagnosis was crushed discs with trapped nerves and cocodamol and diclofenac prescribed without much effect. GP gave gabopentan four days ago- pain is worse and tablets making me loopy. Awaiting musculoskeletal appointment and have found some relief with tens machine I had in house. Should I give up on gabapentan?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hi and welcome to HCM
Your symptoms are likely to be due to nerve root compression at lumbar spine due to disc protrusion. A follow up MRI scan will help in confirming the findings. Since there is only numbness of the affected area it suggests that the affection of nerve root is only minimal. Such minor symptoms are usually taken care of by Methylcobalamin supplements which you can take after consulting your orthopedician
Hope this will helps you. Take care.
