Unable To Swallow Water, Lost Weight. Spastic Esophagus? Can Have Smoothies, Milk Shakes Instead Of Food?
I have what I believe is a spastic esophagus. Some days I cannot even swallow water without feeling like it is "stuck" or having it come back up. I am just wondering what I should be eating right now. I have lost 5 lbs in the last week (which I needed to lose!) but I need to know if there is anything I can do to help this problem. I was wondering if I should choose something like smoothies or milk shakes or just keep playing hit or miss with food.
Hi, Thanks for writing in. I understand that having spastic oesophagus can be a stressful. To overcome this problem I would suggest you to: 1.Eat smaller and more frequent meals. 2.Proper posture while eating, take smaller bites (remember its as if you are feeding a small child). 3.Chew more carefully 4.Consume plenty of fluids. Yes, you can choose smoothies or milk shakes it will help you to satisfy hunger to a certain extent. I was wondering if you have undergone a "scope test" of upper digestive system. You can also ask your doctor regarding endoscopic pneumatic dilatation, endoscopic botulinum injection and the last resort is surgery depending on what is revealed on scopy. Besides that taking some anxiolytics for the time being might help to relieve ur stress. Hope this helps.
