Under Treatment For Bipolar Disorder. Taking Lamictal. Why Is Lithium Not Prescribed For Me?
I have been diagnosed and treated for bipolar 2 for 3 yrs now. Just wondering why my psych has never suggested lithium for me? I don't get severely manic, have rapid cycling hypomania, depression and anxiety. Isn't lithium the main med for bipolar? I am on lamictal again now.,but curious why she has avoided lithium for me. Thank you.
Hi, welcome to Health care magic forum. Of course lithium is a good drug, but due to the side effects and interactions with other drugs, etc many doctors may not like it to be the 1st choice. The other reason is the experience of the doctors may drive them to prescribe some medicines. Any how so long you get the result don't think of the other drugs because there are many factors to be considered to prescribe. Wishing you a healthy life. Thank you.
