Hi Prachi,
Thank you for posting your query.
I understand that you underwent an dis
impaction surgery or commonly called as wisdom
tooth surgery about ten days back. I hope that the tooth was removed completely. This surgery requires some bone trimming depending on how deep your tooth was inside the jaw, and/or the way it is positioned [vertical, horizontal or inclined].
As a result of this, some pain and swelling is expected. The intensity of pain and swelling varies, and itt may range from few days to few weeks.
It is difficult to say without examining if you have an infection. From what you've explained, this looks to me like a case of
dry socket.
The occurrence of dry socket is common after a surgery. The symptoms are excruciating pain, swelling and sometimes even discharge from the socket. A dry socket may take a little more than normal to heal. You may need to see your
dentist who may put some medicine inside the socket to promote quicker healing. Also the dentist may advise if you need any more antibiotics or a confirmation xray to check if the healing socket is okay.
If the pain doesn't subside, I recommend that you visit a dentist at the earlist. I hope that I've answered your query. Kindly let me know if you've any further queries.
Wish you good health.
Thanks,
Dr. Sushma Rajesh.
