Vaginal Hysterectomy Not Successful, Bloating, Nausea, Exhausted Since. Put On Cipro, Oozing Belly Button. Is It Normal ?

I had a vaginal hysterectomy (partial) in Feb. the dr. tried to do it laproscopically but I am very overweight and he couldn't do it and tried 4 times - in his words "your belly button is a mess"., I have been feeling like I've had the flu pretty much since, bloating, nausea, exhausted. then one month ago my belly button had blood on it - went to the dr. who thought it was an ingrown hair and put me on Cipro (lab report showed a strep A infection). I got worse after that, then went back after two weeks with constant oozing and a terrible smell - the dr. said it was anerobic and ordered an u/s and put me on Flagyl. Flagyl didn't help - still feel awful especially after I eat. The u/s showed a chronic abscess close to the surface. I was now sent to a surgeon to have it drained, however the surgeon didn't drain it (or listen to me) and treated just the oozing belly button with silver nitrate (yesterday morning) and said to come back in three weeks. The oozing is so much worse now - thick and gross and lots of it -is this normal??

Hello ma'am.

It does sound like an abscess and will have to be drained and the cavity will have to be thoroughly cleansed.

Antibiotics will also have to be used, but then this depends on the size and severity of the abscess. As mentioned by you, it is already oozing, which means the abscess has ruptured and might not really require a surgical procedure.

Lets leave that for your surgeon to decide and if you do not experience a response within 48 hours, then please revisit your doctor.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.

Hello,
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.
From your query i found that you are too much worried about constant oozing from umbilicus (Belly Button).
Possible causes could be
1. Urachal cyst
2. Fungal infection
3. Diabetes.
4. Patent urachus
5. Bacterial infection.

Urachal cyst is common, if ti is not cleaned properly lead to infection
Urachus is tube connecting bladder and umbilicus when we are in womb.
If it is patent, get infected and cause oozing of fluid.
Follow these measures.
Wash and clean the affected area.
Try not to keep the belly button area warm and moist as it will support microbial growth.
Resist the urge of itching.

Antibiotics are needed for bacterial infections.
you need to some investigations like CT and MRI scan to know the extent of disease.

Hope this helps.
If any doubt, Please reply.
Take care.
