Was Discontinuing PEP After Experiencing Back Pain And While Having Kidney Issues The Right Decision Post Sex?
I had sex with someone where I bottomed and I wasn’t sure if the person took off the condom at any point cuz the room was dark...so I went on pep but I had to discontinue after 10 days cuz I was having back pains and I was scared since I had slight kidney issues in the past where I had blood in my urine. Did I do the right thing? I spoke with my hiv specialist tho.
You discontinued taking PEP after experiencing back pain. If you had kidney issues your treating health care provider could have referred, you to a Nephrologist for kidney issue/pathology management. Get urinalysis (R/E & C/S) done at the earliest. Get clinically examined by a Nephrologist.
For the best efficacy of the medicines, it should not be discontinued. If the risk is insignificant, PEP could be discontinued, or if the contact person is confirmed to be HIV negative, it can be discontinued. Ideally PEP medications ought to be taken consistently and correctly, every day for four week or the risk of HIV infection increases.
