It is always better to get yourself examined by your ENT specialist and then follow the orders. Antibiotics are indeed required for a bacterial infection and if it is just a viral infection then symptomatic treatment with some adjunctive measures like drinking plenty of warm water, doing gargles with povidone iodine solution can get rid of the throat problem. Only if the infection persists, you can definitely start on a good antibiotic. Please avoid antibiotic misuse.
