What Are My Chances Of Conceiving Through Intercourse After Discontinuing Birth Control Pills?

I stopped taking my birth control on thursday night that was my last pill, I then had intercourse Thursday night, Friday night and noticed I was ovulating Saturday night as my discharge went to a creamy type colour, I then had sex Sunday night also. We are trying to conceive and I was wondering what my chances of being pregnant were? I never got withdrawal bleeding like I usually do and have been having long lasting headaches and also had stomach cramps

Hello,

You have stopped taking birth control pills and are now trying for conception. Women who use oral contraceptives before attempting to conceive are more likely to have successful conception within six months or a year. You are encouraged to continue sexual intercourse with your partner. Stay away from stress and both partners should take home made balanced food rich in protein and minerals.

Both partners should avoid any type of addiction. No smoking, drugs, alcohol, etc. If you are not getting menstruation, you are suggested to get clinically examined by a gynecologist. Get urine test for pregnancy done. If pregnant you will be asked to do USG (Uterus with fallopian tube) for the well being of the fetus and gestational age of the fetus and to rule out ectopic pregnancy.

If you are not yet pregnant, you and your partner will be asked to do all infertility tests to detect any pathology that may be causing delayed conception. You and your partner will be accordingly treated.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
