What Are Side Effects Of Giving Meftal To Children?

Hello Doctor, I have a few questions: 1. Meftal-p was prescribed by our doctor for my daughter who is 2yrs 3 months, incase the fever is running high, otherwise crocin every 6 hours. Since the fever shot up in the night, we administered Meftal. Now reading about all the feedback regarding Meftal, I am concerned. What are the side-effects? What could be the long term side effect? 2. The mother is allergic to asprin. Does Meftal-p have any relation to asprin? Also since the mother is allergic do you think I should avoid asprin for daughter as well? So far we haven t given anything to her with asprin or ibuprofen. Thank you for your time.

Hello
Thank You for contacting HCM.
Welcome to Health Care Magic.
My name is Dr Muhammad Ahmad & i will look into your problem.

I have gone through your query and would try to help you in the best possible way.

Not a single drug in this world is with zero side effects but this drug is relatively considered among the safest ones and hopefully it will not cause any short of long term side effects to your kids.

Aspirin Allergy:
Aspirine and mefenemic acid are related just in their effects that they reduce inflammation and fever they are in no way chemically related.

If Mother has Allergy can daughter have it ?

There is no way to be sure ,mother of an asthmatic isn't always asthmatic my own sister has ibuprofen allergy (quite severe one)and it doesn't harm me or my siblings and neither of my parents had it.
If you are afraid that your daughter may have an allergic reaction to aspirin just don't give her aspirin there are hundreds of other drugs available in market which work just fine to control pain, inflammation, blood clotting, fever and all other things aspirin does..

when ever there comes a time in her life when she would need aspirin related drugs we doctors have a simple method to detect allergy we give a small test dose of the drug if that doesn't cause allergic reaction we are good to go.

Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow
up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us.
Wishing Her good health
