What Are Side Effects Of Switching To 112mcg L-thyroxine (if Any)?

After 7 weeks, my endocrinologist switched me from 120 mg. of compounded medication to 112 mcg of L-thyroxine on Sept. 26th. I am experiencing some tightness in my chest. Is this a result of switching the medication & my body adjusting to it? I was taking 100 mcg of L-thyroxine before, for 4 years, & never experienced this.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

- It is possible that the increased dose of L-thyroxine is causing you to experience palpitations that you are perceiving as chest tightness.
- This may normalize once your body readjusts to the dose.
- Keep an eye on it and revisit your primary care physician with TSH levels to see if the increased dose is required and justified.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pranav Balakrishnan, General & Family Physician
