General & Family Physician, Dr. Rajesh 's Response
Hi Margaret,
I am glad to know you are in the process of designing a new drug which you propose that to be a Vaccine. I see that you listed the procedure for your experiments and am sure you are aware of laboratory and animal studies followed by Human clinical trials (including regulatory affairs) before the drug is made available in the market. I am not aware of your education background, but if you are a drug development scientist/ or planning to be one you can propose for federal fund for your research.
At present CAD (Computer aided drug designing) is the best option to develop new vaccine (Since 2005 CAD is used to design a vaccine for HIV as well). To extract the DNA sample one should have knowledge about Bio Informatics, and access to research lab (especially DSL - DNA Sequencing Laboratory). It depends on your location again, for instance in Singapore, NUS - National University of Singapore has this research facility. You can find them in major universities near you.
If you may have further questions you can write back!
Good Luck! Rajesh
