hi dr. , my son in law has what has been dx with impetigo but they had him on two abx and cortisone cream and no relief. i don t think it is impetigo as my dtr has never caught it an ed tells me it s been going on for 6yrs. new baby in the house now. your suggestion?
Impetigo is mainly caused by bacterial infection, so proper selection & usage of antibiotics is very important. As he is already on antibiotics, i advice you to: - Change the course to systemic antibiotics (tab. Sepmax or tab. Cefuroxime 250mg. - Local ointment application: Soak the affected area in warm water, remove the crusts or scab over the wound completely. - Now apply fucidin or Neosporin or T- bact cream. - Impetigo might affect the persons comes in contact, so it's better to cover the affected area.
