Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had a colon recection from diverticulitis possibly from taking celebrex. I have also had stevens-johnson syndrim and kidney disease, rated at 50%. will this new medicine Colchicine, do the same or cause or additional problems. Should I be taking this new medicine?
Hi & Welcome. Incomplete data like age, sex, purpose of taking Colchicine not mentioned.
Used basically in the treatment of acute gout and Familial Mediterranean fever, the most common side effects of Colchicine include diarrhea, vomiting abdominal pain, alopecia and decrease white blood cells.
Since you seem to be having kidney disease the dose of Colchicine should be adjusted according to the creatinine clearance.
You may take this medication depending upon the indication as prescribed by your doctor.
Best wishes.
