What Are The Anesthesia Options For A Cervical Polyp Removal?
I am a healthy 63-year old woman, scheduled to have a rather large cervical polyp removed as an office procedure. Even inserting a small speculum for a routine pelvic exam is extremely painful now. I have had 2 children by Caesarean birth and endured 2 D&C s without anesthesia, so I am hardly whimpy! What are my options for anesthesia? I was told I will get a shot in my cervix. Is there anything else I can take, i.e. oral medication even before the spectrum is used?
Hello, I have gone through your query and understood the concern. Application of lubrication before insertion of the speculum and choosing the appropriate size minimize the difficulty. Para cervical block is sufficient in the usual situation. You may be prescribed an anxiolytic medication prior to the procedure. If there is difficulty in the pain relief, short general anesthesia may be considered if you are fit. Hope you find this information useful. Wish you good health.
