Hi ,
Rightly said Egg has life of around 48 hrs , but is very healthy for 24 hrs only.
Sperms stay alive for 3 days , that is 72 hrs.
So chances of pregnancy is high if you have sex just before ovulation & also for next 2-4 days.
Sperms should reach the tube first & then wait for the egg to come into tube , where they meet & form the baby. Then baby moves & fixes in the uterus.
Chances of pregnancy in normal couple is only 10 % . That's because the healthy egg may not meet the healthy sperm always. Healthy doesn't mean you have a problem. Incidentally the egg or the sperm chosen may not be good.
If you are lucky , you may be in that 10 % & you get the best sperm to meet the best egg & you have a healthy lovely baby.
These are somethings we cannot control.
All the best , God bless you
