Hi, I have swollen tonsil on my right side. White patches on the tonsil, with a dark, maybe black spot in the area above the right tonsil. I have had the white patches before...but the dark spot is something I've never seen. Should I see my Dr. right away?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of black spot on tonsils which seems to be due to tonsillitis, viral pharyngitis, due to lodgement of any foreign body or a small chunk of debris over the tonsil, mononucleosis or tonsil stones. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to
- Do warm saline gargles thrice a day.
- Avoid acidic and cold food or beverage and suck on sugar free lemon candy.
- Sip on plenty of warm water.
- Take soft foods to avoid irritation to the throat.
Consult ENT specialist for proper examination . Doctor may prescribe antibacterial or antiviral depending upon the diagnosis along with anti inflammatory. Doctor may also recommend tonsillectomy and laser tonsil cryptolysis .
Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
