Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Are The Causes Of Increased Difference Between Systolic And Diastolic Blood Pressure?
what are the causes of increased difference between systolic n diastolic blood pressure ....???for example.... bp of 110 by 50.....???in a patient of almost 60 years...???
The most common causes of increased differences in systolic and diastolic pressures are isolated systolic hypertension and aortic insufficiency; the incidence of both conditions increases as we age over 50 years, particularly in males.
In most cases, the systolic pressure (upper figure) rise is usually due to stiffness of large arteries.... / Diastolic pressure (lower figure) fall is due to vasodilatation..
Examination / EKG / ECHOcardiogram / TMT (Treadmill exercise ECG) / LABORATORY work-up – may all be necessary for further assessment and assistance.
Take care Wishing speedy recovery God bless Good luck
