What Are The Chances Of STD On Sharing Things?

3 weeks ago, I guy I had been seeing took a drink of alcohol from a glass of a girl who had recently gotten over an outbreak--she told him this some time later. He said she had no visible sores on her mouth whatsoever. 2 weeks ago, he and I pecked on the lips like 3 times. He went to the doctor, they told him it was highly unlikely that he would have it. He went for a follow up they said they could run a special blood test , but they said he would have gotten symptoms by now. What are the odds that I am infected?

Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic

Herpes labialis is usually acquired via direct contact with an infected skin or mucosa. Transmission through fomites is very rare but can occur as herpes virus can survive for a few hours in moist environment. Since the girl in questions had already gotten over the episode of cold sore therefore it is unlikely that she would be infectious. An Open sore or active cold sore is more likely to be a source of virus rather than a healed episode of cold sore. Therefore, it is highly unlikely that the guy whom you have been seeing, would have got the infection from sharing a glass. Therefore you need not worry about herpes.
