General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, I understand your concern. The IVF is a specialized procedure where eggs are retrieved from mother's ovary & mixed with semen in a test tube--& fertilization outside human body is awaited. Fertilization is union of male sperm & female ovum to form a fertilized ovum. * The success rate of IVF fertilization depends on- - The cause of sterility, - the place where it is done, - age of the couple. Still on an average success rate ot IVF fertilization is 27 %. * The eggs collection is done after it has optimum development. Your doctor must have confirmed it before subjecting it to IVF. Please don't worry, fertilization is a co- incidence. In IVF- all the hurdles in conception are bypassed.& the sperm & ovum are provided with most favorable conditions for union-- but actual union can not be achieved artificially--it has to occur by itself. So be patient, you will be rewarded by a child at proper time ! Thanks.
