What Are The Chances Of Developing Preeclampsia Again With The Second Pregnancy?

My daughter will be 40 in June. She is 6 weeks pregnant with her second child. At age 9, she was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. The only medication she takes is advil as necessary. With her first pregnancy 12 years ago, she developed preeclampsia and was induced at 38+ weeks. Ultimately, she had a C-section for failure to progress and fetal distress. Her son has been diagnosed with mild cerebral palsy. My concerns with this pregnancy are: developing preeclampsia again (this father of the baby is different than first), her age, the arthritis. To add interest, she is a vegetarian, although she does eat eggs and dairy. She is aware of the need to eat a lot of protein and tries to eat a well rounded diet which also includes complex carbohydrates. She has started taking her prenatal vitamins with folic acid.

Hello and welcome to HealthCare Magic forum!
About your concerns : *the risk of having pre eclampsia in this pregnancy is about 12- 15%.
* Each pregnancy with a new partner increases the risk of preeclampsia over a second or third pregnancy with the same partner.
*Rheumatoid arthritis and prolonged interval between pregnancies have a higher risk of preeclampsia.
So your daughter still has a chance of developing preeclampsia again this time around and may be earlier that the previous time, Hence early monitring and preparedness is very important.
Also as your grandson had mild cerebral palsy the delivery this time would have to be carefully planned.
A very good high protein diet preferably eggs and soy are very important.
Prenatals to be continued.
Good luck!
